PVD, anodizing, electroplating or printing: choosing a finish

Short answer: anodizing for aluminum parts that need color and a protected, textured surface; PVD or sputtering for thin, hard-wearing metallic tones on metal or suitable substrates; electroplating for bright or satin metal colors on formed parts; printing when the part needs multi-color graphics. HSINHO runs all of these in-house in Dongguan, so the finish is set where the part is made.

How to decide

  1. What is the base material? Anodizing only works on aluminum; plating and PVD depend on the substrate.
  2. Do you need a brand color or a metal tone? Printed color for brand palettes; plating, PVD or anodizing for metal tones.
  3. How much handling will it see? Parts touched every day favor anodized, PVD or plated metal surfaces.
  4. Is there fine graphics on top? Printing and laser processing can be combined with any of the finishes above.

At HSINHO, color and gloss are matched to an approved standard and checked under controlled lighting as part of a nine-checkpoint quality process (see quality). Laser processing on stainless steel and PET holds tolerances of ±0.1 to ±0.05 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which finishes does HSINHO do in-house?
PVD coating, sputtering, anodizing and brushing, electroplating, and multi-color or transfer printing are all done in-house, alongside die casting, electroforming, CNC, stamping and laser processing.
Can anodizing be used on stainless steel?
No. Anodizing is a process for aluminum. Stainless steel and other metals are typically finished by brushing, polishing, plating or PVD.
How is finish color kept consistent between orders?
HSINHO matches color and gloss against an approved standard and inspects surfaces under controlled lighting before packing.
Can a part combine finishes?
Yes. A common combination is a brushed or anodized base with printed or laser-processed graphics on top.
